night nurses

trudging home

in the dusky morning

a parrot's whistle

from my window

morning draught

whisps through a gap

the smell of coffee

as I watch the bubbles

foaming cream

more clotted cream

on the winter strawberries

a momentary shriek

as ghee spatters

off the frying pan

a distant rumble

a neighbour shouts rain

as she unpegs

the clotheslines

the clonk of wooden clogs

a small town

school reunion

an accidental encounter

made virtual strangers

old friends

monsoon season

the gush in the gutters

fills the rain harvesters

a tea kettle boils

on the wood stove
